"If you can make a difference in the life of just one child, then Whitey’s memory will be fulfilled"

- Harry Kalas, eulogizing Richie Ashburn

Since 1949 the name Richie Ashburn has been synonymous with Philadelphia baseball. His love for the game was matched only by his love of watching kids learn and play the game.

The Richie Ashburn-Harry Kalas Foundation (formerly the Richie Ashburn Baseball Foundation) was founded in 1998 by Rich Ashburn Jr., Rick Mellor, and Ruben Amaro Jr. The Foundation seeks to carry on Richie's dream by giving children in the city and suburbs of Philadelphia the opportunity to learn the art of baseball by offering free camps throughout the area. Using the game as a teaching tool, the camps touch on the more important lessons in life, such as sportsmanship, drug and alcohol awareness, and the value of a good education.

Over the past 18 years, the Ashburn-Kalas Foundation has provided free baseball camps in the Philadelphia area for 1,000 children each summer. The Foundation has also helped fund several academic grants to local private schools.
